Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for James Oppenheim, noted American Jewish poet, novelist and editor.

Mr. Oppenheim died at the age of 50, succumbing to a long illness. The body was cremated.

Mr. Oppenheim was a native of St. Paul, Minnesota where he was born on May 24, 1882, the son of Joseph and Mathilda Schloss Oppenheim. His mother, two sons and his wife survive.

He was the founder of the Seven Arts Magazine. For two years, from 1905 to 1907, Mr. Oppenheim served as a teacher and acting superintendent of the Hebrew Technical School for Girls. A book of short stories, “Dr. Rast,” published in 1909, was based on Jewish themes.

He was a contributor to leading periodicals and was regarded as a literary iconoclast.

A country-wide Menorah Society is being organized in Westchester County, N. Y., with prospective membership to be drawn from the four towns. Yonkers, Mount Vernon, White Plains and New Rochelle, as well as from other communities in Westchester.
