A bomb exploded in an empty bus in the Jerusalem bus terminal this afternoon. There were no injuries but the vehicle was severely damaged. A bomb found in another Jerusalem bus at about the same time was safely de-fused by police. The latest incidents followed a bomb explosion in a Jerusalem bus Sunday morning in which two passengers were injured slightly. The blast in the bus terminal was heard by delegates attending the Sixth Plenary Assembly of the World Jewish Congress at the Jerusalem convention hall a short distance away. The sessions were not interrupted.
Police Minister Shlomo Hillel said in a radio interview this afternoon that the attacks on the buses were part of a new terrorist campaign to disrupt normal life in the capital. He said the terrorists were less interested in killing people than in jeopardizing the co-existence of Jews and Arabs in the city. He said the police were doing their best to forestall the terrorists’ attempts.
