Ten persons were injured, three seriously, when a bomb exploded at a crowded bus stop in Petach Tikva early this morning. A second bomb discovered in the immediate vicinity was safely dismantled by sappers before it detonated. Police believe that the device, a hand grenade attached to a timer, was deliberately set to explode a short time later to cause casualties among the crowds that gathered at the scene of the first explosion.
A general warning was issued to the populace today to keep clear of areas where a bomb explodes on the chance that one or more additional bombs have been planted there.
The Petach Tikva blast occurred several minutes before 6 a.m. local time when commuters were lining up to board buses for their jobs in Tel Aviv or elsewhere. All of the injured were hospitalized. Police are searching the area for clues to the identity of the perpetrators.
