Cadet B. A. Samson. young Bombay Jew on the mercantile marine training ship Dufferin, was awarded the coveted Viceroy# Gold Medal on vote of his shipmates. The award goes annually to the cadet possessing all the qualities that go to make a good sailor.
Captain H. Digby Beste told the cadets in voting that they choose the most proficient sailor in the class. the most truthful and the one most devoted to his duties. Samson received the highest number of votes. Five were aspirants for the honor.
