The Central Jewish Board of Bombay today sent a memorandum to Izhak Ben-Zvi, president of Israel, explaining Indian Jewry’s views regarding the difficulties encountered by members of the Indian Bene Israel community who have been forbidden to marry other Jews in Israel. Some Israeli rabbis have ruled that the Bene Israel could not marry other Israeli Jews because of differences in their marriage and divorce customs.
