The five “bombs” found on Saturday in the Garden of Gethsemane were today revealed as being shells for Turkish seventy-five millimetre guns used during the war. A police investigation showed that the shells, which are harmless, were dug up in the course of the ploughing season. They have been destroyed.
When the shells were first discovered, alarmist rumors began to spread through the city that it was part of a Jewish plot to blow up the Nebi Musa procession, one of the greatest Moslem festivals of the year, which will pass a route not far from the Garden. At the time, the police expressed doubt as to the veracity of the rumors.
