A spokesman for the Federal Government said today that diplomatic relations should be established between West Germany and Israel. He stressed that the matter was not a “question of principle but a question of time.”
The spokesman, referring to reports that Felix Von Eskardt, Federal Press Chief, had declared that the Bonn Government had no intention of establishing such relations, said that the Federal Government had not changed its “basic attitude” in favor of the step.
A spokesman for the Social Democratic party told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that his party would “most likely” request the establishment of West German-Israel diplomatic relations during the foreign policy debate in Parliament which begins Feb. 10.
