In view of the attack by Bonn Justice Minister Fritz Schaeffer on the current restitution and compensation policy for victims of Nazism, the Bonn Government was asked today to re-state its policy toward restitution.
The League of German Persecutees, in an obvious reference to Herr Schaeffer’s call for limitation of restitution payments and his assertion that the claims of Jewish victims threatened the stability of the German mark, said that this development had aroused an anti-democratic reaction which would harm West Germany’s reputation abroad. It also took issue with the validity of the Justice Minister’s remarks.
