The West German Foreign Ministry today formally requested Italy to extradite Ludwig Zind, convicted German schoolteacher who was nabbed in Naples after escaping from Germany after he was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment.
Zind was about to board a ship several weeks ago at Naples for Libya, where a teaching job awaited him, when he was recognized by Israeli sailors along the pies. They called Italian police who arrested him. The man is now in an Italian Jail. Officials here expressed opinions, privately, that they are not certain the Italian Government would honor the extradition request. There is no extradition treaty between Germany and Italy.
