The East German Government will not recognize the “completely unjustified” Luxembourg reparations agreement between the West German Federal Republic and Israel, according to an official spokesman at a press conference held in East Berlin in connection with the note addressed to Bonn last week by Walter Ulbricht, who is the Communist Party leader and Deputy Minister-President of East Germany.
The reparations deliveries received by Israel from the Federal Republic constitute only one of the many “tributes” which, according to Ulbricht, are being exacted from the latter. The note, which was shrugged off as just another propaganda maneuver by West German and Allied circles, urged West Germany to rid itself of these burdens by annulling its foreign debts and by demanding a reduction of occupation costs.
