Ewald Bucher, West German Minister of Justice, has said that he knows of “only a couple” of Nazi war criminals still at large, Tuvya Friedman, director of the Haifa Documentation Center for Nazi Crimes, said here today. He has just returned from a visit to Bonn to request an extension of the German statute of limitations on war crimes which is due to expire May 8.
Mr. Friedman said that, in his meeting with Mr. Bucher the Justice Minister said, however, that, if he is given a list of a larger number of German war criminals, he would be prepared to consider an extension of the statute of limitations. Mr. Friedman said that there were several thousand Nazi war criminals still at large, and that he was preparing a list of names to be submitted to the Bonn Justice Minister. He called on every survivor of the Nazis to furnish the names of German war criminals.
