Grants totalling more than $3,000,000 to various philanthropic causes were announced here by the trustees of the estate of Jacob Ziskind, Fall River industrialist and philanthropist, who died in 1950.
A grant of $1,000,000 went to the New England Center Hospital for research purposes at the Jacob Ziskind Research Laboratory, also built with funds contributed by the philanthropist. One-half a million dollars went to Beth Israel Hospital here to finance research fellowships and $100,000 went to Union Hospital in Fall River for the development of a research laboratory.
Brandeis University received the sum of $500,000 as an endowment fund to underwrite the University’s program of attracting topflight scholars for its faculty, while Smith College received $500, 000 to build a dormitory for 65 students. Weizmann Institute received $100,000 for cancer research; Beth El Temple in Fall River received $140,000 to initiate a fund drive; and $235,000 was contributed for the construction of the Lowell Hebrew Community Center.
