The Combined Jewish Appeal of Greater Boston reported today that nearly $1,380,000 had been pledged in advance of the 1963 campaign, a record amount for that stage of the drive.
Bernard D. Grossman, general chairman, called the pledges a “tremendous amount” and said the total was “substantially more than that pledged at the same event in 1962,” More than 600 persons attended the campaign opening dinner which paid tribute to past campaign chairmen and to the 25th anniversary of the United Jewish Appeal.
Edward M.M. Warburg, honorary chairman of the UJA and chairman of the Joint Distribution Committee, was the guest speaker, Irving W. Raab was dinner chairman. The CJA raised more than $5,000,000 in 1962.
