A letter protesting against the display of the swastika flag in the window of the German consulate on State Street was forwarded yesterday to Acting Secretary of State William Phillips. The protest was filed on behalf of a large number of Jewish business men by Robert O. Lee, State Street broker.
The letter read in part:
“The Jewish citizenry does not feel the German consulate has the license to display in an American city a flag which is symbolic of a German political party, especially when that party is founded on medieval, anti-social and backward tenets.”
Many expressions of approval for his stand were received. Among those who supported him were William Berman, president of the Jewish War Veterans of America; Harry Greenbaum, councillor of the Knights of Pythias, and Harry Zornis, an attorney-at-law.
