Governor Saltonstall and Cardinal O’Connell were among the representatives of all faiths who paid tribute to the Jewish community of Massachusetts last night on the occasion of the centennial anniversary of Temple Ohabei Shalom. Governor Saltonstall appeared in person and Cardinal O’Connell’s greeting was brought by his personal representative, Father Michael J. Ahern, S.J., of Weston College.
Other speakers included Dr. James G. Heller of Cincinnati, president of the Central Conference of American Rabbis, Rev. Ashley Day Leavitt of the Harward Congregational Church, who spoke for the Protestant churches and Rabbi Herman H. Rubenovitz, president of the Rabbinical Association of Greater Boston.
