Boycott Epidemic Rakes Saar Area

A new and comprehensive anti-Jewish campaign cutting deeply into the social and economic life of both the adult and younger Jewish population is spreading throughout the Saar territory, a manifesto issued today by Dr. Ruelf, Chief Rabbi of the Saar Jewish Community, reveals.

With an anti-Jewish boycott the crux of the campaign, the Saar is flooded with leaflets and placards urging the boycott of Jewish shops, Dr. Ruelf’s declaration states. At the same time, women’s organizations of the rural districts are forbidding their members to consult Jewish doctors.

CAFES DISCRIMINATE

Intimidated by threats that they will be boycotted by the Nazified part of the population, the proprietors of restaurants and cafes are requesting Jews not to enter their establishments, the manifesto says. In the public schools the persecutions inflicted upon Jewish pupils have reached the stage of the intolerable. Stringent orders against such anti-Semitic brutalities have now been issued by the Educational Department of the Saar Government, generally considered a conservative body.

Protest against the new anti-Jewish campaign in the Saar should be lodged at once. Dr. Ruehl’s manifesto urges. It also charges that the most recent provocations of Julius Streicher, governor of Franconia and self-styled most violent anti-Semite in the world, are aimed principally at the Jews of the Saar.
