German shipping, which is centered in Hamburg and in Bremen, is suffering considerably from the Jewish boycott, the Frankfurter Zeitung disclosed today. Lines running to American ports, and to a great extent, the South African lines, are suffering badly, the newspaper declared.
Official German circles feel that the highest point in the widespread Jewish boycott on all German products has already been reached, except in New York.
When the Jewish boycott on German goods began, soon after the reports of Hitlerite persecution reached the outside world, the Germans laughed at the idea. Later they began to feel the pinch and under Minister of Economics Schmitt, began an effort to mitigate the lot of the German Jews in order to weaken the boycott. Also Germans in other countries began protests against the boycott and are still endeavoring to combat the boycott on German goods. In recent months practically every speech of high German officials has contained references to the boycott.
