Degrees were conferred upon 446 graduates at the 14th Commencement exercises yesterday of Brandeis University. Undergraduate degrees were presented to 315 students and 131 received Master’s and Doctor’s degrees. The university also awarded honorary degrees to 11 performing arts leaders.
The university’s three-year development campaign exceeded a $65,100,000 goal by nearly $11,000,000, Norman S. Rabb, university board of trustees chairman, told 1,000 persons attending a pre-commencement banquet.
Announcing the final total of $76,038,487, Mr. Rabb said that during the three years, 187 meetings were held in 84 communities and that 20,000 persons made contributions. He added that the present fund-raising effort was concentrated on increasing the university’s $20,000,000 endowment, particularly in establishing chairs, scholarships and fellowships.
