The first degrees ever to be the granted by Brandeis University here were conferred today on 101 students who were the first to enter the university four years ago. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, a member of the Brandeis board of trustees, delivered the principal address before more than 8,000 guests.
Four years ago Brandeis University opened its doors to admit the 107 students of its “pilot” freshman class. The student body has now grown to more than 600, and the faculty body has increased from 13 to 78. From various colleges and universities throughout the United States, acceptances to graduate and professional schools have been received by 37 members of the first graduating class of Brandeis.
Following the approval of Brandeis by the executive committee of the American Association of Law Schools, six major law schools have admitted Brandeis students. With several universities yet to be heard from, the following law schools have accepted Brandeis applicants: The University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell, Syracuse, and Boston University. Four of Yale University’s graduate schools will welcome Brandeis graduates in the fall. So far 11 students have been admitted to medical and dental schools.
