Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, the only Jew ever named to the highest court in the land, marked his 74th birthday at his home here today. Justice Brandeis passed the day quietly in his study in the company of his family and friends.
The new developments in the Zionist situation have given rise to many rumors that Justice Brandeis would resign from the Supreme Court to take over the leadership of the Zionist movement. These reports have brought forth numerous editorials deploring the possible loss of Justice Brandeis from the Supreme Court where, since his appointment in 1916 by President Wilson, he has been one of the Liberal minority.
Justice Brandeis was born in Louisville, Ky., November 13, 1856. He is a former honorary president of the Zionist Organization of America. From 1914 to 1918 he was chairman of the Provisional Committee for General Zionist Affairs.
