Brandeis to Participate in Palestine Pavilion Opening May 28

Former Justice Louis D. Brandeis will participate in the formal opening ceremonies of the Jewish Palestine Pavilion at the the New York World’s Fair on May 28, it was announced today at a press preview of the pavilion. He will share the speakers’ stand with Prof. Abert Einstein. The ceremonies will mark the first appearance of Mr. Brandeis at a public function in many years.

Originally scheduled by May 15, the dedication has been postponed because the exhibit has not been entirely completed. However, the pavilion will be unofficially opened to the public this Saturday night to satisfy the demand of many thousands who have unsuccessfully sought admission since opening of the Fair on April 30.

Several score representatives of the Yiddish, Anglo-Jewish and general attended the preview. A 140-page handsomely illustrated Palestine Book, featuring articles by Dr. Chaim Weizmann, other Zionist leaders and noted authors, was distributed. In an introductory note, City Councilman George Backer, president of the Pavilion’s sponsoring committee, declares:

“The hope of the American sponsors will have been fulfilled if those who visit the Pavilion will derive from it some understanding of what the devotion and the courage and the energy of the Jewish settlers in Palestine have accomplished. These accomplishments have a significance beyond the fact of their being. For in a world in which great sections of the human race seem to have lost sight of the objective of life itself these Jewish efforts in Palestine reemphasize a direction which is in great danger of being lost. That this pavilion should be a part of a Fair dedicated to the World of Tomorrow adds sharpness and poignancy to its significance.”
