A trust fund to enhance teaching of the Yiddish language and culture has been established at Brandeis University by Jacob D. Berg, a New York realtor. It will be known as the “Jacob D. Berg Chair in Yiddish Culture.”
Mr. Berg has been identified with Jewish education for more than 40 years. Born in Poland, he emigrated to London, England, and in 1914 came to the United States. He is president of Sholem Aleichem Folks Institute and a director since 1943 of the Yivo Institute of Jewish Research. He is a founder of the Congress of Jewish Culture and has served on its administration committee since 1949. In 1950, Mr. Berg was elected to the board of the Jewish Teachers Seminary and has held the post since that time.
