The work of the Brandeis Youth Foundation, which is seeking to instill in young Jews an appreciation of their Jewish cultural heritage and to create a desire for active leadership in Jewish communal affairs, was praised today by Mayor Vincent Impellitteri on the occasion of its 11th anniversary. The Foundation is named after the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis.
The total yearly budget of the Foundation is $400,000 which is provided by grants from individuals and from national and local organizations. The Foundation maintains three summer camps in Pennsylvania. North Carolina and California, as well as an art institute and a Year-Round Institute. Currently, the Foundation is making available 200 scholarships valued at $100,000. Louis Levine of Leominster, Mass., is president; Dr. Shlomo Bardin has been director of the Foundation since its establishment in 1941.
