A bill proposing that the Government of Brazil grant honorary citizenship to Dr. Jonas Salk in recognition of his anti-polio vaccine discovery was introduced in Parliament here by deputy Chagas Freitas.
A letter of thanks, signed by thousands of Brazilian mothers, is now being prepared here for presentation to Dr. Salk. Among the first to sign the letter were: Yoao Cafe Filho, wife of the President of Brazil; Mrs. Carlos Luz, wife of the Speaker of the House; Mrs. Alim Pedro, wife of the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro. The letter to Dr. Salk was drafted and circulated at the initiative of Dr. Pedro Calmon, rector of the University of Brazil.
