The Brazilian Cabinet decided today to postpone for two years, action on the adoption of a proposal to withdraw from use in Brazilian schools a Portuguese dictionary containing a number of anti-Semitic definitions.

Earlier this year, former President Janio Quadros ordered a special commission to study the advisability of withdrawing the dictionary from use in the schools. The two-year postponement was voted after the commission reported that it would need the additional time to study the matter. The dictionary contained such definition as: Jew–a swindler; rabbi–a devil; synagogue–a place where Jews do business.
