”I cannot help thinking that with the difficulties that still exist in obtaining visas, Brazil, with her vast unpeopled areas, is missing opportunities of recruiting many desirable citizens form Europe,” Arthur Asquith, chairman of Parana Plantations, Limited, stated in the course of his speech to the meeting of shareholders of the company.
Reporting that the company had received applications for land from many suitable people who were unable to obtain visas, Mr. Asquith said: ”Two of the most efficiently run plantations which I visited near Rolandia were owned and managed, one of them by a Jewish refugee from Germany, and the other by a German lawyer of international repute with some Jewish blood.”
