Brushes between Brazilian Nazis and the Brazilian Liberal Youth organization resulted in the pro-Hitlerites coming off second best both here and in Santos.
The skirmishes developed over display by German business and banking firms of Nazi flags alongside of Brazilian flags on the occasion of proclamation of the new constitution. Led by the Liberal Youth factions, crowds rushed by police guarding the banks and commercial houses and tore the Nazi banners down.
Another vigorous anti-Nazi demonstration was staged before the Cinema Odeon here where the Nazi propaganda film “Heroic Youth” was being shown.
At Apiahy, a railroad center near Rio de Janeiro, bloodshed was narrowly averted by police interference in conflicts between the Integralists (Brazilian Fascists) and Socialists.
