The Jewish Cultural Society of Houston Texas, has started a movement for a library of books pertinent to Jewish life dealing with current and historical topics.
Fifteen Jewish labor unions were represented yesterday at the funeral of Benjamin Witaskin, a labor organizer and lieutenant of the late Samuel Gompers, who died on Saturday in Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. The funeral was held at an undertaking chapel in 312 East Fifth. Street. Cantor Israel Breeh conducted the service. Eulogies were delivered by union delegates.
Rabbi Hyman Sharfman was convicted of selling liquor in Boston and was sentenced to a month’s imprisonment and a fine of $200. He appealed and was released on bail.
