Brigadier General Harold Cohen, Deputy General of the Australian military forces, died here at the age of 65.
A public official since 1929, when he served as a member of the legislative council for the state of Victoria, General Cohen was Assistant Minister of Railways from 1932 to 1935 when he became Minister of Public Instruction and Solicitor General. General Cohen, who was born in Melbourne and studied law at the University of Melbourne, saw service in both world wars. As commanding officer of a brigade, he received the Distinguished Service Order in 1917, and during the second world war was Australian Red Cross commissioner in the Middle East for three years.
