Several leading British residents, including Dr. Strathearn, the Director of the Opthalmic Hospital of the Order of St. John in Jerusalem, Miss Coates, the Principal of the Jerusalem Girls’ College, and Miss McInnes, the daughter of Dr. Rennie McInnes, the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem, were among the victims of a hold-up on the Jerusalem-Jericho Road this afternoon. There were about 30 British residents involved. They were proceeding along the road in twelve motor cars, when four brigands, armed with rifles, held up the drivers and robbed the passengers of all their money and valuables.

The outrage is the culmination of a number of highway robberies during the last few days. In one which occurred on Tuesday night, near Ramallah, on the Jerusalem-Nablus Road, three cars carrying a number of Jewish passengers and several Arabs were held up and robbed by armed Bedouins. The Jews had their lives threatened by the Bedouins, but their Arab fellow-travellers appealed for them and saved their lives. The police state that the brigands who took part in the Ramallah hold-up have been captured.
