Brighter prospects for Jewish colonization in Bureya (Bira-Bidzhan) undertaken by the Ozet, Jewish society for land settlement, were seen in the reports coming from that district.

Plegantov, Soviet director of the Far Eastern transmigration department, who arrived here from Chabarovsk, stated in an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that Bureya is suitable for Jewish settlement.

He sees good possibilities for agriculture, including rice plantations, and also for fisheries. He stated that he believes a plan to settle 60,000 Jews in the territory within the next five years would be feasible.

The artisan union and the Far East Agricultural Cooperative Federation have undertaken to furnish work for 700 artisans in Bureya, a report received here states.

The governmental department and the society sponsoring the project have decided that 400 transmigrants will be permitted to procced to Bureya in the fall.
