be installed in their offices immediately without awaiting the decision of the court. They pointed out that of the twelve council seats, only three are being contested and declared that the dispute over the three seats should not debar the nine duly elected councillors from their posts.
ASK JEWISH MAYOR
Nashashibi and his four adherents on the old council had an audience with Governor Campbell late yesterday to discuss possible legalization of the retention of power by the old council pending determination of his court action. Three other Arab members of the old council recently resigned in protest against Nashashibi’s policies and alleged irregularities in his administration.
The six Jewish councillors also submitted yesterday a demand that a Jew be appointed as mayor of Jerusalem. Consideration of this and their other bequests was promised fey Campbell, who expressed the hope that the High Commissioner would consult with the Jewish councillors before taking action.
