Britain and Israel signed an extradition treaty today at the Foreign Office. Foreign Secretary Selwyn Lloyd signed the document for Britain and Arthur Lourie, the Israel Ambassador here, signed for Israel. The treaty is retroactive to January, 1957.
The treaty does not cover political crimes. It bars extradition of persons who have been resident in the country of refuge for three years. It permits extradition to one country of a citizen of the other as, for example, of an Israeli who is accused of a crime in Britain and has returned to Israel, or of a British subject wanted on charges in Israel.
