Britain criticized renewed Israeli settlement activity, saying it jeopardized the Wye agreement. The criticism came after a right-wing group received government permission to break ground for a Jewish enclave in an Arab neighborhood in eastern Jerusalem and after Israel announced that more homes would be built in the West Bank settlement of Kiryat Arba. A statement released by Britain’s consulate general in Jerusalem said the moves “risk undermining the new spirit of cooperation forged at Wye.”
