Britain has been and is giving Israeli scientists aid with a multiplicity of nuclear problems, Dr. M.Shaffer, scientific attache at the Israel Embassy here, declared today.
Pointing out that Britain’s assistance to the Jewish State in this field is on a level with any received by Israel from other countries, Dr. Shaffer reported that Israeli scientists were receiving training at British research installations, and Britain has been making available to Israeli scientists information of a non-military character.
on the other hand, he pointed out, Israel years ago provided Britain with information and technical experience in the production of heavy water, an element necessary in the production of nuclear energy, by a method invented in Israel.
Israeli-Frech cooperation also grew out of the Israeli extension of information based on this process and has flowered into a continuing relationship in the field of nuclear energy production for peaceful purposes. The United States has provided Israel with an atomic energy reactor which is expected to be producing power by the end of 1959.
