The Foreign Office here today indicated that the British Government has no objection to the establishment of an Israeli representation in London, notwithstanding the fact that Israel is not recognized by Britain.
Emphasizing that the Government of Israel “cannot of course have a minister here,” a Foreign Office spokesman added: “But no one can stop them from putting State of Israel over their door if they want to.”
The spokesman made his statement following a report that an official of the Jewish Agency in London announced tonight that the state of Israel intends establishing representation here. “It will be some weeks yet before the representation is established,” the official said. “The building of the Jewish Agency may continue to he used until new quarters are found, but the Agency will continue to exist here as a separate body.”
