Britain Invites All Arab Rulers to Conference in London on Palestine Question

The British Government has decided to invite the rulers of all the Arab countries to a conference in London on the Palestine problem, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned today from an unimpeachable source.

It has not yet been established what form a similar invitation to Jews will take, and whether the British Government will invite only representatives of the Jewish Agency, or also representatives of other central Jewish organizations.

The Jewish Agency refused to give any hint as to whether it has received any such invitation. Earlier in the day a spokesman for the Agency told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that the British Government has not approached the Agency with regard to the report of the Anglo-American inquiry committee.

A report from Jerusalem today said that the Palestine Government has announced that the immigration schedule for the period from May 15 to June 14 will comprise 1,600 single immigration certificates, of which 1,500 are for Jews and 100 for Arabs.

Reuter’s today carries an interview from Tel Aviv with a spokesman of the Jewish resistance movement quoting him as stating that Palestine Jews “will be loyal to any power that will save our massacred brethren, and assure a national existence in Palestine.

“We will struggle here and abroad against any power depriving us of our way to salvation,” the spokesman said. “If Britain fulfills her promises to the Jews, she will be a reliable ally, but if the White Paper policy is pursued, we will do our utmost to deprive Britain of the right to rule in Palestine. Our policy is not based solely on written promises but on solid facts. If the British Government carries out the immigration of 100,000 Jews, Jews will keep the peace necessary for the immigration. But as long as the White Paper policy continues, we are in a state of war with the policy of its authors.”
