Acting under instructions of the British authorities, the Vienna police today called in Rudolf Braver, president of the Zionist Organization, and other Austrian Jewish leaders, and questioned them as to whether threats against Britain were voiced during the pro-Palestine demonstration held by Jews last Sunday in connection with the hearings of the Anglo-American Inquiry Committee.
The Jewish leaders told the police that the demonstration was spontaneous and in no way anti-British. They emphasized that the Jews who participated merely wanted to impress the members of the inquiry committee with their desire to go to Palestine.
The police guard at the headquarters of the Jewish Community here was increased today, following the receipt of anonymous threatening letters by members of the community council. Such letters are now being received daily in the office of the Jewish Community.
The writers, obviously Nazis, state that an underground organization has been formed in Austria “to deal with the Jewish question” and that the organization is divided into seven sections. All the letters have been handed over to the police.
