Britain Pledges Support for Measures to Aid Victims of Anti-semitism

The British Government pledged today its sympathetic consideration of any measures proposed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees aimed at assisting stateless persons and other refugees including victims of anti-Semitic persecution and discrimination.

Responding to a plea from the Standing Conference on Economic and Social Work of the United Nations, whose member organizations include the Anglo-Jewish Association, Board of Deputies of British Jews and Agudas Israel, the Foreign Office: agreed that stateless persons fell within the jurisdiction of the High Commissioner, and that it is for the High Commissioner to put forth proposals to assist these refugees overcome their present difficulties.

The Standing Conference had appealed to the Foreign Office to support the High Commissioner in efforts to give legal and diplomatic protection to stateless or otherwise unprotected refugees and to secure property forcibly abandoned and compensation for losses inflicted on them.
