New pages in Israeli naval history and in the story of Anglo-Israeli relations will be written in Portsmouth Thursday morning when the British Navy turns over one of two World War II submarines it is selling Israel. The vessels have been declared surplus to the British Navy.
Shimon Peres, director general of the Israel Defense Ministry, will be present when the commander of Portsmouth naval station hands the undersea craft to the commander of Israel’s navy. The Israelis are scheduled to arrive here Wednesday by air from Tel Aviv.
