THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT WILL START NEGOTIATIONS AFTER THE SEPTEMBER MEETING OF THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS COUNCIL TO CARRY OUT THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF ITS ROYAL, COMMISSION REGARDING ESTABLISHMENT OF A JEWISH STATE IN PALESTINE, WILLIAM G.A. ORMSBY-GORE, COLONIAL SECRETARY, ANNOUNCED TODAY.
“DR. WEIZMANN TOLD ME THE RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE ZIONIST CONGRESS OPENED THE DOOR TO SUCH NEGOTIATIONS,” MR. ORMSBY-GORE SAID IN A STATEMENT TO THE JEWISH TELEGRAPHIC AGENCY.
THE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE AFTER THE COLONIAL SECRETARY HAD HAD A LONG CONVERSATION WITH DR. WEIZMANN IN WHICH HE EXPRESSED SATISFACTION WITH THE RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE ZIONIST CONGRESS YESTERDAY.
THE COLONIAL SECRETARY ADDRESSED THE LEAGUE MANDATES COMMISSION TODAY ON THE FUTURE OF PALESTINE. DR. WEIZMANN PRESENTED THE ZIONIST RESOLUTION TO THE COMMISSION AND WAS TO LEAVE FOR ZURICH TONIGHT. MR. ORMSBY-GORE IS LEAVING GENEVA TOMORROW.
MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION, WHO ARE EXAMINING BRITISH PROPOSALS TO PARTITION PALESTINE EMBODIED IN THE ROYAL COMMISSION REPORT, HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR INTENTION NOT TO BE INFLUENCED BY THE ZIONIST RESOLUTION, BUT TO JUDGE THE SITUATION ACCORDING TO THEIR CONVICTIONS, IT WAS LEARNED.
