The British Government is considering a second approach in the United Nations on the Egyptian treatment of British Jews and other of its nationals, Parliamentary Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Harvey announced in Commons today. The original protest was made last December.
Responding to a question by Laborite Barnett Janner, the Undersecretary said that the British Government deplored the “barbaric behavior” of the Nasser regime in arresting Jews, sequestering their property and exiling them. Such actions, Mr. Harvey continued, are in defiance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Aneurin Bevan, Labor leader, asked that the government prepare a paper on the matter for the House, so that the MP’s would have all the information on the persecutions.
