Commenting on the appeal for 1,000 American physicians for the British Red Cross, a special correspondent of The Sunday Times reports, on the basis of official information, that only 150 alien doctors in Britain have so far found employment, while 700 more are still unemployed, although registered for service for three months.
These doctors are, for the most part, Austrians and Germans classified as friendly aliens and also include 250 Czechoslovaks registered with the Czech Refugee Trust Fund. The correspondent declares that British physicians could be freed for war duties if aliens were taken in larger numbers.
