Great Britain will fulfil the Balfour Declaration in the letter as well as in the spirit, and British policy in Palestine is constant, Mr. Cunliffe-Lister, the Secretary of State for the Colonies declares in a cable message to Mr. Nahum Sokolov, read out by him last night at a reception to the President of the Jewish Agency in the Astor Hotel, attended by over three thousand people. Over a thousand more were turned away for lack of room.
There is danger of a collapse in Palestine, Mr. Sokolov warned his audience, making an impressive appeal to American Jewry to help to save Palestine from a catastrophic situation.
Dr. Nahum Goldman, one of the leaders of the Radical Zionists, who is a member of the Keren Hayesod delegation to America, headed by Mr. Sokolov, Mr. Felix M. Warburg, Judge Julian W. Mack, Mr. Emanuel Neuman, Rabbi Dr. Stephen S. Wise, and Mr. Jacob de Haas, also addressed the gathering.
