The British Board of Trade, concerned over a short-age of sulphur for British industrial requirements, is showing keen interest in possible exploitation of sulphur deposits in the Negev, in southern Israel, it was reported here today.
The deposits are located in Israel territory abutting the Egyptian-held Gaza coastal strip. They provided large quantities of sulphur for the Germans during World War I when Palestine was in Turkish hands. According to Israeli sources, however, the deposits have not been worked in several years.
