Britain’s foreign secretary met with leaders of that country’s Jewish community in a fence-mending effort. At the meeting, Robin Cook stressed Britain’s commitment to Israel, but said the country needs to have a “balanced approach” to the peace process. Cook, who also met with Israel’s ambassador to Britain, was criticized by Jewish groups and Israel after he met with a Palestinian official at Har Homa, a controversial Jewish housing project, while on a tour last month of Israel.
