The United Nations and democratic leaders were called on yesterday by delegates to the 78th annual convention of B’rith Abraham to urge the Soviet Union to “eradicate its anti-Semitic manifestations.” That stand was taken in a resolution adopted by the 750 delegates of the Jewish fraternal order.
The delegates heard an appeal by Grand Master Irving L. Hodes of Newark to Attorney General Nicholas Katzenbach to act to outlaw the Ku Klux Klan “as the nation’s gravest cancer which is soul searing and designed to destroy American unity.” Mr. Hodes also denounced anti-Semitic publications which he said were “flooding America, libeling and vilifying Jews with impunity.” He called for Congressional action to amend mailing laws to “bar vicious hate sheets from use of the U. S. mails.”
Sen. Wayne Morse was presented tonight with the Brith Abraham “Humanitarian Award” for “outstanding service in the Senate in helping underprivileged nations of the world and his support of Israel.”
