The United States Government was called upon officially to express its protest against the barbaric treatment of the Jews in Germany, in a telegram sent today to President Roosevelt and Secretary of State Hull. This telegram, signed by A Sigmund Kanengieser, Grand Master of Brith Sholom, a national Jewish fraternal Order, speaks in the name of all the Brith Sholom lodges scattered throughout the country.

Simultaneously with this telegram addressed to the President and the State Department, the various lodges were called upon to communicate with their Congressmen and Senators in Washington with a view to obtaining action.

The telegram to President Roosevelt follows:

“Information emanating from most reliable sources clearly indicates barbaric treatment of Jews in Germany continues unabated. Though appreciative of the sympathetic interest displayed by your administration and confident of your desire to be helpful, we still feel that a definite statement of the attitude of the American government would prove of value at this time. The Hitler government should not be permitted to carry on its ghastly activity and yet enjoy a place of honor among the enlightened nations of the world. The protest of the American government would, we feel, go a long way in bringing Germany to its senses.”
