The projected establishment in the United States of a temporary refugee shelter was endorsed here today at the closing session of the 39th annual conference of the Independent Order B’rith Sholom. The convention also went on record urging intensified rescue efforts for the Jews of Europe and supporting the activities of the major Jewish relief and rehabilitation agencies.
The concluding session of the convention, which was scheduled for tomorrow, was cancelled to permit members to attend the funeral of Dr. Harry Ericsson of Norristown, Penn., one of the delegates, who was drowned here yesterday. This afternoon’s session was addressed by Dr. Israel Goldstein, president of the Zionist Organization. The following officers were elected. Alex F. Stanton of Philadelphia, Grand Master; Frank E. Bernstein of N.Y., Vice-Grand Master; and Maurice E. Cohen, of Philadelphia, Grand Treasurer.
