Eight members of the Hebrew National Opera were injured last night, two of them seriously, when they were fired upon by an armored car while en route to Tel Aviv from Chedera, where they had given a performance.
The car in which they were travelling was stopped by a military patrol for routine identity check. While the soldiers were examining the singers’ identification documents, an armored car which was stationed across the road opened fire. Mordekhai Heftman, 35, and Nahum Hochman have been operated on to remove bullets.
Replying to questions by police, the soldiers said that the armored car had fired “by accident,” but the singers stated that the shooting was deliberate.
